About us

Learn keyboard and piano with our flexible programs for all levels and ages. Our programs can be customized and crafted based on student’s speed of learning, grasping ability and performance with time.

My personal mission is to do my part to promote music learning and appreciation as an enjoyable and knowledgeable art for my students. Not all students of music will make this their career, but my aim is to have all of them love and appreciate music however it enriches their lives.

My vision is to see the rich musical traditions of the world continue as a valuable and living art which as many people can participate in and/or enjoy as audiences and patrons. This vast amount of history, knowledge and enjoyment must not be lost in the generations to come.

Studio Offerings

A well-rounded music study includes a number of different aspects. This studio also includes related music activities, such as games from time to time, and as needed to help reinforce concepts. There are three workshops per year, which are designed to get students together with others near their level of study, so they can get to know each other, and work or learn together. Workshops are related activities to lessons, but include activities for which there isn’t time during private lessons. There are also two or three concerts per year, to give students the opportunity to perform for their families, and in some instances, people in long-term care. There are also festivals and exams offered outside of the studio, which students may be involved in, and prepared for.

Tailored Lessons to
Meet your Goals and Needs

1

Welcoming All age groups

On offer at this studio are piano and theory lessons for all ages, once per week, including some summer lessons for those who wish to continue from June to August. Ages 5 and up are welcome, including adult learners.
2

Determined by the level of the student

The length of the lesson will be determined by the level a student is at. All lessons are in-person, at my studio. Online capability is available when necessary, for example if the student is not well, but still able to do a lesson.
3

A Taste of Story

Enjoyment of music is a very important aspect of learning, and I bring as much of this into the lesson as I can. Part of making music is learning how to effectively communicate your performance - to tell a story. Each lesson will have a snippet of history, a dash of personal story, a bit of theory, or an object lesson.
4

Learn from the best

Many years of education and experience go into each lesson, as well as caring for the whole person. Sometimes, the lesson will include a YouTube clip, an online photo or a listening session with a CD to help inform a piece the student is playing. The more we understand about music, the more we enjoy it.

Materials of Learning

Instructional books will include conservatory books, but also supplementary books of different styles. There is a large music library in the studio, and other music is readily available online as well. Great care is taken to make sure music is obtained according to copyright, if it is not yet in the public domain.

Ongoing Professional Development

I have participated in a number of workshops and conferences for music teachers over the years, and continue to learn and improve on teaching skills and other related subjects. This keeps my approach fresh and interesting, as I implement any new knowledge and approaches. Voice lessons have helped to improve my knowledge of vocal materials and how the voice interacts with instruments such as the piano.

FAQ's

Yes, a good digital piano is Ok, provided it has 88 keys, and the keys are
weighted like piano keys. An acoustic piano is better if it is in good condition.

Absolutely! There are many benefits to taking music lessons at any age. Aside from the enjoyment that making music brings, it also keeps our hands limber and our minds active and engaged.

I always interview and audition (in this case), prospective students at no charge in my studio, before accepting registration. This gives me a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses, and what level they are at in their studies. Usually, we can continue using the books the student has had before.
